The recordings of the drums and percussion for "Bizarro" were broken down into individual snippets of sound, which were synchronized to the first beat of every measure to impart a pseudo impression of loops that aren't really loops — with an absoluteness of an unhuman nature (given that no person is perfect, and thus no drummer is robotically in sync) — so as to create an undercurrent that speaks to the themes of the song.
The saxophone and flute were recorded with an over the shoulder technique, so the music captured is akin to that heard by the performer — as if placing the listener in the same perspective (and by extension, the same position and condition of the protagonist). Instrumentation: voice, alto sax, flute, drum set, bongos, claves, woodblock, triangles Miscellaneous Art Rock Trivia for "Bizarro": The snare drum is double miked, but set up opposite the industry standard for such — boosting the song's bizarreness. sound recording personnel:

Didn’t I finish this task before?
Why don’t my feet seem to touch the floor? Something don’t look right about that door… Why do I feel underscored?! Is this reality? Is this a fantasy? Is this what truly be? Or is this all just a dream? Why does time seem to be standing still? Why does that teapot seem extra shrill? Why does this bridge seem so steep uphill? Why do I feel overfilled?! Is this reality? Is this a fantasy? Is this what truly be? Or is this all just a dream? When did I start up that radio? Why do my feet boom when I tiptoe? Something looks cosmic about that glow… Why don’t I feel in the know? Is this reality? Is this a fantasy? Is this what truly be? Or is this all just a dream? |
