The lyrics for "Marriage (Love Letters)" were assembled from notes, letters, cards, and poems written from Matthew to Bridget starting from the time the two began dating as teens — when messages were penned on ruled paper, folded methodically into swaddled squares or triangles, and passed off covertly in the hallways of high school.
The song consists of Matthew's words and Bridget's music to serve as a metaphor for marriage — where two entities that function perfectly fine and fully on their own become something even grander when harmoniously combined together. Bridget crafted the song on the sly, then performed it as a surprise for Matthew during their wedding ceremony. Lest you ever thought me too aloof
Here’s a poem to provide you proof That when the poet in me goes unseen Devoted to you I will be You bring out the best in me it’s true Empty my life would be without you You’re as awesome as an evening sunset Any time with you is well spent I gaze at you before I go to sleep
Your face is the last thing I see In hopes my dreams consist only Of all the joy that’s you and me Whenever I pray I make sure I Thank God that you are in my life No one makes me feel like I do for you No one could love me as you do Your trust you gave at our first meeting
A memory never fleeting Believe me what I say is true When you’re in need I’m here for you Be not afraid of what lies ahead By love (God’s will) we shall be led When it comes to proof no more is needed With you my life is completed I thank God you’re in my life...
I thank God you’re in my life... I thank God that you and I now share one life! |
