"Marriage V (Still Here)" is the fifth and final song in a Marriage-titled series spotlighting spousal love
[bookending Marriage (Love Letters), which is the first]. The last verse was originally written to be somewhat waggish (though still wholehearted) — but the cheeky tone had a hint of inharmoniousness when sung... With both Bridget and Matthew serving as caretakers for aging (and at times dying) loved ones over the years, the "for better or for worse" topics of the third verse have become all the more informed and appreciable — giving light to how the vocals needed to be approached for the song to finally come fully into its own. Instrumentation: voice, alto sax, baritone sax, marimba, drum set Miscellaneous Art Rock Trivia for "Marriage V (Still Here)": The cymbals were constructed to expand as the song escalates to illustrate love growing in a successful marriage…in addition, one of the ride cymbal's tracks was intentionally close-miked to create a gong-like presence toward the end. sound recording personnel:

And you'll still
Be here In the morning — No deserted pillow When I wake… And I'll still Be here When we’re storming — When we're both A bit too much to take. And you’ll still Be here When we’re down-and-out — When life is dealing Dire straights… And I’ll still Be here When we’re knocked about — Beat upon By those who love to hate. And you’ll still Be here When I’m injured — Broken, Bruised, or Bearing bundled pain… And I’ll still Be here When you’re infirm — Queasy, Dazed, or Weathering from age. |
