Slow Burn
music by Bridget Viviani and Matthew Thornicroft
"Slow Burn" is a combination of scored loops and improvisation. The song was originally intended to allow improvisational moments across all the instruments,
but given the restraints of a bedroom studio and a two-piece band, Bridget switched gears and retooled the song
to have scripted riffs mixed with impromptu licks.
She then decided to take things a step further by having
the riffs be locked in while the licks were free-form.

While many of Bridget's drum fills are impromptu,
"Slow Burn" takes that element to the next level with entirely unscripted drums. It is the only song on Off & On to feature improvised parts of such an extensive nature.
It is also the only instrumental song on the album.

Instrumentation: electric bass guitar, acoustic bass guitar, flute, tenor sax, drum set

Miscellaneous Art Rock Trivia for "Slow Burn":

The instrumentation and execution is meant to evoke flames at times (e.g., the fluttering flute) versus smoldering combustion and smoke at other times.
sound recording personnel:
