Undying Love

"Undying Love" is the only song on the album Off & On
to incorporate performances from just half of Oftiani. As Bridget played around with the two melodic motifs she had written for the song, neither sounded right on any of the woodwind instruments at disposal within the band. Knowing the song dictates what it needs when it comes to art rock, the two riffs were both set on the marimba — the place that ultimately worked best for each of them. With time, it became obvious that Matthew's conspicuous inaction from the song symbolically enhanced the theme — speaking to not just the loss of a loved one, but also the absence of their attributes and offerings. Instrumentation: voice, marimba, acoustic bass guitar, drum set Miscellaneous Art Rock Trivia for "Undying Love": Clumsy, disheveled, limp, choppy, muffled and just generally rough-hewn musical moments — e.g., wonky feel of tempo, sticks colliding, hi-hat clenching and slumping, raspy bass, and jarring "off-center" notes — are intentional, as they run parallel to emotions experienced while a loved one dies. sound recording personnel:

You love me so…
Please know I know. You’re my safeguard, My Saint Bernard… You hug my mind
Across all time… I’ll hold your heart When we’re apart. It’s quite all right
To feel the fright; Cause fight or flight, Each day has night. We can’t revise… Our hands our tied. But ties that bind Can never die. I love you so…
I know you know. We’re in the throes… It’s time to go. |
